ANTIOXIDANTS

We hear a lot about those champions but what are really antioxidants and why do we need them?
To understand why we need them, let's remember first that our body contains free radicals which can damage cells, leading to inflammation, leading to disease and in some cases, even cancer. Those free radicals can come either from waste (what our body does not need or consume), or from external factors such as smoke, pollution, chemicals, etc...
This is when antioxidants are, not only usefull but also necessary; here is how:
Antioxidants are compounds that prevent the oxidation or destruction of important substances in cells that free radicals try to destroy. They protect cells from the damages of the free radicals, thus reversing the process that could lead to major diseases or even cancer.
Where can we find those antioxidants?
there are several of them and we can find them mainly in vegetables, fruits and whole grains.
- Vitamin A: foods that contain carotenoids (which is transformed by the body into vitamin A) such as dark green vegetables, orange fruits, carrots, sweet potatoes, liver, eggs, milk and butter
- Vitamin C: citrus, beets, berries, kiwi, broccoli, bell peppers
- Vitamin E: sunflower (seeds & oil), almond, peanut, spinach, tomato, sweet potato, broccoli, mang, raspberryolive and canola oil
Making sure that you eat a wide variety of vegetables and fruits on a daily basis will enable you to build a strong support and immune system. As you switch foods around and diversify your diet, you also give your body all the different vitamins and minerals it needs.
As you increase your fresh vegetables and fruits intake, you will soon get healthier, more energized and feeling better. You will decrease your chances of major illnesses and probably impact the lives of people around you a positive way.
Antioxidants are one more reason, if one even needed one more, to eat more vegetables and fruits and make your body the great favor of health!
