When You Have to Change Your Diet

There can be many reasons why you have to change your diet, weight loss, diabetes, cholesterol, cancer, coeliac disease, etc... It's like a double punishment, the disease + the food restriction.
Chances are the food you used to have might well be the reason that lead to that diagnosis, so this can be an opportunity to get on the right track and feel better.
Now changing your diet is pretty overwhelming and forces you to rethink everythink and change habits that can date up to 50 years or more....
Let's break this down to a few steps that will help you get where you are supposed to be: a better place!
1- Accept the diagnosis, yes that sounds obvious but if you don't accept the situation you'll never work on it seriously.
2- Keep in mind your are doing yourself a FAVOR: yes, that's what you are doing, this is for you to feel better, get yourself in a better place. This has to stay in your mind.
3- Have a plan: get a friend or family member on your side, clear the pantry, put notes everywhere.... Whatever works for you that will help you go through this.
4- List what you can have vs. can’t: and keep that list at sight
5- Make a list of choices: appetizers, salads, soups, entrees, desserts. Once you listed everything, you will realize there are more choices available to you than what you thougt in the first place! Keep that list on hand - on the fridge for example- so you don't run out of ideas, your options are in front of you.
6- Monitor: keep track of how your body reacts to those changes, it is also a great opportunity to witness the positive impact of that new diet.
7- Adjust: Since it is a new diet, it is important to be patient and take the time to adjust if you have to. Also, adjusting to a new diet also means changing your shopping habits in addition to your cooking habits.
8- Enjoy, yes, enjoy feeling better and be grateful for that new diet that is helping you!
