July is national picnic month
A few tips to keep it fun and healthy!

Picnic can be a nice option to break the routine and enjoy some family time for an impromptu dinner at the park!
I like picnic, the casual and playful times that come with it.
As it comes to packing some food, your ready to go/processed options are tempting but certainly not the healthiest solution.
Here are some easy choices that will still keep you on the healthy side:
- Crunchy fresh vegetables to dip are really easy to pack and nibble on too!
- Salsas are a great alternative to heavy dips and also super fresh and much enjoyable at that time of the year, hummus now come in so many different flavors, they are fun and packed with nutrients.
- Avoid the soggy salads and keep it fresh with seasonal vegetables. If your children have a hard time with salads, pasta salads can do the jobs with some vegetables and chicken or hard boiled eggs. Dressings can be as easy as olive oil and lemon juice, especially if you opt for shrimp in your salad.
- Slaws are among my favorites because they are super refreshing and take nutrient packed nuts very easily.
- If you decide to make a few sandwiches, whole wheat bread should be the way to go, mustard can also be a lighter substitution for heavy mayonnaise, hummus works well too!
- Fruit skewers stay on the fun and healthy side too, you can even mix some cheese in it.
- And don't forget to hydrate! "Spa waters" are easy to make and can take different flavors, from cucumber and mint to citrus or watermelon basil, choices are numerous and will keep everybody away from sodas or other sugar loaded drinks.
- Finally, don't forget to make it a fun, play time and move time by packing balls, rackets and your favorite games!
